For some people, the definition of an excellent night is a roaring fire and a glass of wine. Others prefer to curl up with a good book. And then there are those that like to get out and mix it up a bit. North Tahoe offers those seeking a bit of nocturnal adventure many avenues to choose from.
Rolling the Dice
North Shore’s proximity to the Nevada border makes it easy to venture into the Silver State for some games of chance. Because Nevada has been in the business of legalized gambling longer than any other state (since 1931!), they have refined casino nightlife into an art form. Reno alone has 6 major casinos, and there are 4 casinos just across the state line in North Tahoe.
- Cal Neva Resort Hotel and Casino was owned by Frank Sinatra in the 1960’s and was frequented by the Rat Pack and the Kennedy’s. Supposedly, Marilyn Monroe and JFK had a rendezvous here. Today, the Casino is quiet compared to its vivid past, but don’t pass up a chance to visit history.

Dancing the Night Away
- Jake’s on the Lake prides itself on embodying the carefree Tahoe spirit and offers excellent service in a casual and genial atmosphere. One of the premier restaurants in Northern Tahoe, Jakes is also know for their excellent view of the lake and mountains.

- Rookies is a sports bar at heart, but they also have dancing and karaoke. Billing itself as the place where everyone plays, Rookies is open 24/7. They have 12 satellite Tv’s scattered throughout the casual bar. On the weekend, there is a DJ for dancing.

- River Ranch Lodge has been serving happy customers for over 100 years. In the summer, inter-tubers float down the Truckee River and terminate their voyage at the River Ranch Lodge. In the winter, it is a premier destination for après-ski food and drinks.

- Lakeside Pizza is a great pub/sportsbar/nightclub in North Tahoe. The bill themselves as being “behind the Safeway in Tahoe City” and boast 14 beers on tap as well as amazing homemade pizza. With lake views, 17 TVs plus one jumbo-screen, and free wi-fi there is something for every sports-liking, beer-drinking, dancing person around!
